My first foray into video game cooking is the epic Final Fantasy XIV, an MMO that I have been playing since just six months after 2.0 released (that’s years).

This was a challenging experience for me because there is so much fish. I do not like fish, or shellfish, or anything that vaguely smells like or comes from the ocean. The Boyfriend, on the other hand, loves literally everything that is placed in front of him – which makes a great companion for the creation of this cookbook! Some recipes came out beautifully first try and some required research and tweaking and many consultations with my most excellent cook of a mom, who was always ready to impart some cooking knowledge!

You will notice that I have broken down the recipes by region in the game, taking into account lore, ingredients, and the given description of the recipe within the game. There are always going to be some that are arguably from a different area, etc. Let’s just say: I did what I thought was right, and it’s not going to be perfect, but no one is. I also included in this cookbook only meals, so there will be no “ingredients” or anything of that kind. I may do the tabletop dishes at some later point, but this is a big enough undertaking that I wanted to leave those for a later date. Maybe someday when I’m really bored.
